If you run a small shop, a 5-person factory, a consultancy, or a freelance practice in India, AI can give you back 10 to 15 hours every week without hiring anyone. Below is a practical starting plan — no jargon, no tech setup, only what works.

Why small business owners should care

A typical Indian small business owner wears five hats: sales, marketing, customer service, accounting, and HR. AI is best at exactly the boring, repeating parts of each of these — drafting messages, replying to FAQs, building flyers, summarising bills, writing reminders. You stay in charge. Save the answers in a Notes app or Google Doc. Reuse them. Tweak them. Within a month you will have a library of templates that runs your business communications.

Step 3: Add one design tool

Sign up to Canva (free). Use the AI features to generate posters, social media images, business cards, brochures and flyers. A flyer that used to cost you ₹500 and a 3-day wait now takes 15 minutes. This single change has the highest visible impact for Indian shop owners.

Step 4: Use AI for the boring back-office

• GST doubts. "Explain in simple Hindi whether tailoring service to retail customers requires GST registration below ₹20 lakh turnover." (Then confirm with your CA.)
• Vendor letters. "Write a polite letter asking my supplier for a 5% discount based on 4 years of regular orders."
• HR templates. "Draft an offer letter for a junior salesperson at ₹18,000 per month with one month's notice."
